Barcelona forward Lionel Messi left young ambassadors of cancer support organisation CanTeen stunned at Melbourne City's training facility yesterday.
Argentina superstar Messi presented Georgia-Mae Mazzarella, 15, and Denis Pauguy, 19, with brand new football boots, signed autographs and posed for photos with the teenagers.
CanTeen is the Australian national support organisation for young people aged 12-24 living with cancer.
Denis has been with CanTeen since the age of 11 after his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Georgia-Mae joined CanTeen at 12 when her sister was diagnosed with lymphoma.
CanTeen aims to help young people cope with cancer in their family. Through CanTeen, they learn to explore and deal with their feelings about cancer, connect with other young people in the same boat and if they’ve been diagnosed themselves. They also provide specialists and youth-specific treatment teams.
The pair also toured City’s training facility.
