Miller played with Perth Glory between 2011-13, and also had stints at Brisbane Roar and Melbourne City.

The 36-year-old, who began his career at Celtic before moving on to Manchester United, won the A-League Premiership/Championship double with the Roar in 2014.Β 

Tweets began circulating on Sunday that Miller had been transferred to a hospice and was fighting for his life.Β 

However, BBC Sport pundit Tam McManus reported he had been in US for treatment and has flown to Scotland to begin chemotherapy treatement.

Several of his former team-mates, including Stoke City and former Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam, have tweeted their support to the Irishman in his battle with cancer.Β 

Ex-Ireland striker Noel Hunt tweeted: β€œSuch sad news about my old room mate Liam Miller, Pray to God he pulls through this battle with cancer, my thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.”
