With competitions fierce between Nabbout, Tomi Juric, Jamie Maclaren and Tim Cahill for the sole striker’s spot in coach Bert van Marwijk’s revamped system, players have taken any chance to shine.

But they have also been quick to flare up if they feel teammates are stopping them from showing their best.

Tim Cahill also briefly fired up when he was twice denied a chance to score by Mat Ryan and Brad Jones coming far off their line in a shooting drill.

And even mild-mannered Aaron Mooy was raging at teen sensation Daniel Arzani at one point, although the row soon turned to smiles again.

Today Nabbout admitted: β€œIt’s all just emotions at training. There was nothing in it.

β€œThere are no issues there. Camaraderie is high in the team and we’re just focusing towards France. Off the pitch, there’s nothing really...

β€œOn the pitch we go out there and try to do everything we can to become a starting striker. The fact that there’s four of us brings healthy competition.

"They brought in Macca pretty late which was a bit of a surprise but I welcomed it. It’s good for healthy competition.Β 

β€œIt gives us more attacking options and it’s just about us going out there and trying to prove a point to the coach to get that starting place.”
