Jess Fishlock opens up another dimension, while Newcastle capitulate in their chance to go top of the table, slumping 5-2 to an inspired Melbourne City side brimming with firepower.
After Perth lost to Adelaide, the stage was set for an unlikely team to grab top spot, with Emily Van Egmond’s Jets side a formidable force so far this season.
After an average start to the season, City however, had a point to prove. With Larissa Crummer, Kyah Simon and Jessica Fishlock at the point of attack, they were supposed to blast away sides this season – and they’re finally showing why.
All three jumped on the scoresheet to outmuscle the Jets, who had started brightly with a brace to star striker Katie Stengel.
The City win leaves Perth, Newcastle and City all even on six points at the top of the table, in what’s shaping up to be a magnificent W-League season.
