Brattan says the experience he brings from Brisbane is important going into his first finals campaign with City, but the feeling is different after losing three of their last four games, including their recent 5-4 loss to Perth Glory.

Going into the reverse sudden-death fixture against Glory on Sunday, Brattan said the difference in his experiences was the momentum his team had at Brisbane and how opponents knew what to expect from Roar.

β€œI think this squad is better than the one I was in at Brisbane,” Brattan said.

β€œI know it’s hard to say that but the quality we have all around the park is phenomenal, I know that we can do things when we play well, we all gel together and it’s scary.

β€œWe see that day in and day out at training, so I know if we do what we can and we’ll have no problem.

β€œI’m not saying it’s a better team, this is an all-round better squad, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to win more games, score more points.

β€œI think that the Sydney squad isn’t the best squad but they’re a good group, consistent, they’ve broken records and that’s credit to them. It’s hard to describe but the individuals we have in this squad are phenomenal and it’s rare to get that in a squad with the salary cap.”

Brattan admitted his form fell after returning from Socceroos camp in November and he wasn’t focused on impressing coach Ange Postecoglou in the finals series.

Brattan dubbed teammate Neil Kilkenny as one of the best midfielders in the league after their successful combination this season.

β€œNeil and I have played there for the majority of the year, when I came back from the Socceroos, I didn’t play particularly well for a good month or so, maybe even more,” he said.

β€œI’ve got to take more responsibility and get back to where I was at the start of the season.

β€œI’m just concentrating on finals, it’s not about me personally, it’s about the team and that’s the first thing I think about is winning titles and I can’t think about that by myself, no one can.

β€œWe need every man in the squad to win trophies, so if it happens, it happens but I’m not thinking about it at all.”
